Progress towards sustainable development in Asia has been slow. Today, most environmental funding is directed at large environmental projects and large environmental companies, because such funding is perceived by existing financial players as less risky.
However, this traditional mindset overlooks a fundamental reality: a vast majority of projects and companies in the environmental space are small-sized. The lack of funding for small projects results in slow progress in dealing with pollution, resource wastage, lack of recycling, etc.
Innovation
TIGRIS has developed a disruptive business model, working with environmental firms that are small and medium-sized enterprises (“SMEs”) to develop small environmental projects, which not only achieve positive Environmental, Social and Governance (“ESG”) impact, but are bankable and attractive investments. In addition to its Projects, TIGRIS also contributes to capacity building of its SME partners, which is a high developmental impact activity.
Furthermore, TIGRIS is being set up as a ESG platform, to hold multiple non-bank finance company (“NBFC”) licences in select countries in Asia. A Singapore-based ESG NBFC platform is the first of its kind in Asia. Possession of a NBFC license helps TIGRIS to access local debt capital, which is part of the scaling-up strategy to become a leading Environmental and Sustainability Project Development Company in Asia.
